The IRS has a quicker turnaround time than usual, so the time is NOW to get your EFIN. We will help you by looking at your application to ensure there are no mistakes that may hold you up.
Step 1: Create an IRS E-Services Account
Before you begin the online e-file application, you must have an IRS E-Services account, which facilitates electronic interaction with the IRS. When you apply for an e-services account, you will need the following:
- Your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) from the current OR prior tax year to verify your identity
- Be prepared to answer the questions on the bottom of this page in red
- Create a username, a password and a PIN and provide an answer to a reminder question for your username. You can change it once we are finished reviewing.
- List the info for yourself & each principal (business partner) and responsible official (not recommended) in your tax business. If you have business partners or a different responsible official than yourself, they will need to create their own IRS E-Services account.
Step 2: Input
- Firm Information page
- Supply identification information for your company/firm. You can register as a LLC using your EIN or as a Sole Proprietor using your SSN. If you need WCFS to set up your LLC Business Entity Click Here to begin the process.
- Enter a business address and phone number, preferably not a cell.
- Answer the questions at the bottom Yes or No; and it will more than likely be NO to website question and YES to the 12-months a year (unless you have a separate business address to provide).
- Application Details page
- Select Electronic Return Originator (ERO).
- Select "For Profit"
- Enter information about each Principal and Responsible Official in your organization
- Authorized Users page
- Put YOUR name and contact information in for 3 roles:
- Principal
- Responsible Official
- Primary Contact
- Application Summary page
- Review all your information to ensure you inputted everything accurately
- Look for where it reads "Personal Suitability" and click for the pop up (below) and answer.
- Then schedule your Fingerprints using the IRS Livescan tool. It is FREE and it will give you an option of places to go up to 120 miles from the firm location you entered into the application. Instructions in Step 3 (below).
- You will have selected a 4-digit code when you set up your account, please acknowledge and enter the 4-digit pin. You will need to use this 4-digit code henceforth if you want to change or edit anything on your application.
- Application Comments page - press continue without entering anything
- Application Submission page - enter your 4-digit pin and check mark the acknowledgement.
- EFIN Status page
- DO NOT HIT SUBMIT YET if you want WCFS to look at it. Click Here to schedule a time for us to look at it ASAP; it takes a few weeks to get approved, so don't delay!
- ETIN page - press continue without entering anything
- Services Authorized For page - press continue without entering anything
Step 2: Give WCFS Your Login Credentials
- OR If you feel confidant you followed instructions, submit your application and move to step 3.
- Click Here to schedule your Session so we can check your application.
Step 3: Make sure you schedule your Finger Print
- Immediately after Step 1, provide fingerprints to the IRS to expedite the application process.
Step 5: Suitability Test
After you submit your application and submit the required information outlined above, the IRS will conduct a suitability check. This suitability check may involve: a credit check; a tax compliance check; a criminal background check; and a check for prior non-compliance with IRS e-file requirements. Do not be scared about this part because they MAY NOT check your credit or you may pass a credit check because it's a low threshold. There is no penalty if they do not approve you and your PTIN (to prepare taxes is still valid), so it is worth a try!
Step 4: Check the Status
- Return to E-Services to confirm your registration every week to see if it's updated. It can be confirmed as early as 2 weeks.
- Once status has changed to either Confirmation or Rejection, go to the Acknowledgement section and email info@wcfs.pro to let WCFS know so we can do the next steps to get EFIN integrated with your Software.
